MICK WHITE, 100 YEAR MANIFESTO FOUNDER

14 years ago, Mick White made a commitment that changed his life. He committed to calling his mom every single day. It wasn't always easy to find the time during the day. It wasn't always convenient. And unfortunately, at times it felt like a burden. But it was worth it. Here's why:

Mick learned four keys to making a successful commitment that he still uses to this day:

Have a burning desire: You need a strong reason for committing to something, something that drives you forward even when it gets tough.
Take clear actions: Define what you need to do to fulfill your commitment and make sure it's specific.
Count the costs: Understand the sacrifices you may need to make to keep your commitment and be willing to make them.
Act on commitment, not feelings: Emotions can fluctuate, but when you make a commitment, stick to it even if you don't feel like it.

Mick's commitment to call his mom every day strengthened their relationship, and each call was the highlight of her day. Looking back, each call was also the highlight of his day. Sadly, she passed away unexpectedly in 2011 at age 58, but because of his commitment, they had talked over 600 times in the 88 weeks leading up to her passing. The lesson he learned is that one seemingly small act done daily can change your life. One seemingly small act. Done daily. Without fail. Simple, right?

From that experience, Mick discovered the power of a commitment.

Mick also saw the impact of one life well-lived. His mom, her visitation was 7 hours long. People impacted by her life, her love, her legacy.
